Burning Down the House

The citizens of Mehlville have been fed a steady diet of bullshit by the Board of Directors of the Mehlville Fire Department. I've heard about huge savings going to the average property owner. Here we are 4 years later and I've watched them ruin a fine department and for what?
I just looked at the breakdown for my taxes since 2005. I've gone from paying $275 per year to $201 for fire and ambulance service in 2008.

If they are such a stellar organization why aren't they internationally accredited (http://publicsafetyexcellence.org/)? Probably because of their high degree of dysfuntional behavior that permeates from the top down. Micro-management from the BOD breeds inadequate as well as insecurity for the public as well as the workers.
One of the best practices of high performance organizations is for leadership to nurture a culture that allows for people to question openly and have honest dialogue. A leader’s beliefs and values create the direction and the boundaries that people need to perform well. In “Good to Great” (2001) Jim Collins asserts, “good-to-great companies built a consistent system with clear constraints, but they also gave people freedom and responsibility within the framework of that system.” This is Policy Governance that is applicable to the private as well as public sector, in a nutshell. People need direction and latitude and empowerment not an egomaniacal micromanager.

Only 74.00! What happened to the 400.00 tax savings? Maybe you should just ask far a rebate from the frie department!

Through my nose? That must be a really large lie.Seriously, could you do me a favor 1:07 and tell me exactly what lie I've told? I'd be more than glad to show you my real estate and property tax records. They're public records so anybody can get them from the county.

Wow, I guess since you used capital letters, you must be right. But lets look at the facts. The board ( Hilmer) said the average homeowner saved over 600 bucks in one year alone. The average homeowner only pays 250 bucks a year for fire and ambulance service. Who is the liar? If you can't write anything more insightful than calling me a liar, you should apply for a job with the Oakville Call.

You think thats a lie go look at the wet spot lie trap. They try to argue what PJ has said about employees leaving for better employement. Their conclusion is that 18 of these employees have left because of union bosses treating them badly. Wow as far as I know there is only one such case and he has not left. Well Im not going to personally guarentee that no employee has left because they got a feeling hurt I will guarentee that every one of those 18 left because they were scared where the current boards vision of the district was. Its a scary vision at that but if they really do want to run the cheepest fire district in history and skip on firefighter safty why do you think more wont leave?

Let's make this perfectly clear. Hilmer and Co don't give a rat's ass about firefighter safety. Not when it comes to the old guard and not when it comes to the newbies, either. Cheap hires are a dime a dozen (literally!) and if someone goes down, hell, draw another number from the bucket. Their disability plan reeks...in an industry where it is all too easy to end up disabled.
They don't give a rat's ass about community safety because they know all too well the community doesn't understand what it's looking at and therefore can't/won't hold them accountable for their poor decisions.
Their entire focus in life is cutting taxes, which sounds ducky at first. But they have stripped a valuable community asset to the very edge and rebuilding it someday will be far more costly than maintaining it ever could have been in both lives and dollars.
