Mike Anthony-The Editor from Arnold

Thinking about the public comments portion of public meetings, reminds me of a story about Mike Anthony (the editor from Arnold). A couple of years ago, while I was on the school board, I mentioned that using the citizens' public comments portion was probably the worst way to communicate with the board. I went on to say we needed to share with the community the various ways people could contact us, i.e.; e-mail, phone calls, visiting, etc. The problem is that normally board members don’t interact with people at the meetings because unless it was posted as an agenda item, it could be a violation of the Sunshine Law. Many people are disappointed that this interaction doesn’t take place and go away frustrated. That week Mike Anthony wrote a long editorial about how I didn’t like the open comments portion and that I should be hung, well maybe he didn’t say hung, but it was something stupid like that. I called him at home and told him I felt he unfairly represented my statement and that I never said I didn’t like it but that it wasn’t a good way to communicate. I asked him why a parent who was upset about something should have to wait three weeks for a meeting when we might be able to give them the information they needed instantly over the phone. “ You shouldn’t be talking to parents,” he told me. I’m sure my voice rose when I asked him why. “Because we couldn’t observe that. You could make a deal!” I had to ask him if he was serious that I shouldn’t be talking to parents. Oh, yes he was serious. I had to get off the phone before I told him what I really thought of him. Where does a guy, who doesn’t even live in our community, get off telling a board member, he shouldn’t talk to a parent or anybody else for that matter? That’s when he got one of his new nicknames: the Journo-fascist.

Didn't the South County Truth Spot post about this several days ago?

Mike, you just don't understand that Mr. Anthony is a flaming liberal! It matters not what is right, it only matters that he "feels good" about it!

You see, a liberal must have everything out in the open (except their own dealings) in order to "feel" that they have "made a difference!"

Mr. Anthony, and the "paper" have made a difference in South County if for no other reason than they have exposed a public servent actually wishing to talk to the public!

My Lord, what a fiendish idea that is! Why, do you actually think an elected official should ever be so sneaky as to answer a question without his approval?

He, and the "paper" are what they are, they will never change, so I guess we shall have to continue to point out their "foibles!"

I don't know. I stopped reading the Truth Defector a while ago as I stopped reading the Call. It's one in the same.

A history of the world, condensed version. Or how liberals and conservitives came to be.

For those that don't know about history...... here is a condensed version.

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were:

1. The invention of beer, and

2. The invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer.

These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals

2. Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the Conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these Liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men.

Some noteworthy Liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that Conservatives provided.

Over the years Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers inHollywood and group therapists are Liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, game wardens, constitutional law lawyers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other Conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the Liberals remained in Europe when Conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history.......

Passed on from a friend.

Tom,

Good post. Isn't your friend Mike Heins a liberal Democrat?

Crestwood Independent said...

Gee, I really don't know about that. Whatever his politics, he does make some very good points for the conservitive side!

That said, he has done nothing to me that I should be up-set about, so we shall continue to be friends!

Hey Everybody,
I love the funny stuff, but really who gets to make the labels. As for me, call me what you like. I've served 20 years in the military, coached youth sports for years and served on a public school board. I've been called everything but a scholar athlete so label me what you like.Usually in politics, the labels are meaningless buzzwords. Yes, I know conservatives want less regulation and taxes, but if you go in strong Republican neighborhoods or cities, they have the most restrictions, services and schools. Gun control: I say have no permits. Just have strong laws that require gun carriers to have liability insurance. Let the insurance company define the risk. They won't let the wifebeaters and mentally unstable carry guns. That's the American and conservative way.Actually, I was on the Mike Huckabee bandwagon before he announced his intention to run for president because of his leadership in eduction finance reform in Arkansas. I guess that makes me an authenticate conservative.

Crestwood Independent said...

Well, yes but if you were for Fred Thompson, well, that would eaven be Better!

Education reform in Arkansas? What else could they do, they were on the bottom rung anyway!

A birt on "gun control" from a conservitive!

FIREARMS REFRESHER COURSE

1.An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

2.A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

3.Colt: The original point and click interface.

4.Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.

5.If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?

6.If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.

7.Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.

8.If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

9.Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

10.The United States Constitution (c)1791. All Rights Reserved.

11.What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?

12.The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.

13.64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.

14.Guns only have two enemies; rust and politicians.

15.Know guns, know peace, know safety. No guns, no peace, no safety.

16.You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.

17.911: Government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.

18.Assault is a behavior, not a device.

19.Criminals love gun control; it makes their jobs safer.

20.If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.

21.Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

22.You have only the rights you are willing to fight for.

23.Enforce the gun control laws we ALREADY have; don't make more.

24.When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.

25.The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

Tom,
I'm not a big proponent of a lot more guns be carried around. What I would like is a little common sense being used by everyone instead of a lot of laws to harass common citizens. I will point out that on most military bases the only people allowed to carry loaded weapons are security personnel.

Crestwood Independent said...

I am right with you on enforcing the laws we now have in place! I am a believer in the Consitution though as it stands. If the politico's want to chang it, do it the right way, not with more laws they will never enforce anyway.

Your right about Military bases also, but as you know weapons are readily available to the troop's at any time.

Common sense is the watch word here as so very few of our "leaders" follow it, and none of our "papers" do!

Someone once told me, we send Democrats to Washington to get the things we want and Republicans so we don't have to pay for them. I say liberals expect Washington to fix all their problems and conservatives blame all their problems on Washington. I think I'll try and stay somewhere in the middle. Many a true word is spoken in jest.

If someone drives a 1982 Impala into a crowd of people and kills 7 and injures 15 then are we going to outlaw 1982 Impalas?

Hmmmmmm.......

Anonymous said...

To that I say, once Impalas are outlawed, only outlaws will have Impalas. I still think we must have reasonable restrictions on guns. Some people have no business carrying a weapon. Look at Bill Milligan's history with women. And what you see on my blog is just some of the stuff he's been involved in. The Call's general manager/owner refuses to allow us to look at his arrest records. Also, look at Mehlville Fire Chief Silvernail. The guy was guilty of harassing his former bosses prior to coming here, then he comes here and threatened a candidate for the fire board! He has several restraining orders against him. He is not allowed to carry a weapon as long as he is employed be the Mehlville Fire Dept. and that's a good thing. Isn't it funny that the Call and their associates refer to the firefighters and paramedics as thugs when the first guy Hilmer and Stegmann hired was a first class thug and a bully?

Anonymous said...

I have checked the public record, and I can't find ANY restraining orders against James Silvernail. Perhaps you can point me to the source of your information.

SouthCountyMike said...

I'm sure I read about it in a reputable newspaper.

Anonymous said...

Prove it before you make baseless allegations.

SouthCountyMike said...

You're kidding me right. This reminds me of the guy who said Milligan was never at Hilmer's house except for the election night party. Wrong!! If you don't know this stuff, you've either been out of town or reading the Call. The Chief (Silvernail) has pleaded no contest to harassing a former fire district director. You don't have to prove it when they plead no contest. Call the Chief at the district and ask him. If I'm wrong, have him call me (they have my numbers) and not only will I apoligize, I will make a $100 donation to Lydia's House ( a home for abused women). Speaking of the Chief, the charges were all pending when he was hired. Did Hilmer and Stegmann check him out prior to hiring him? No, they went strictly on the recommendation of James Stonebraker.

Anonymous said...

What's Stonebraker got to do with this?

Anonymous said...

Why don't you correct your accusations of restraining orders against Silvernail? There are none, correct?

Anonymous said...

Good question. Why is it Bonnie and Aaron failed to do any research and relied solely on the recommendation of James Stonebraker to hire the senior administrator of the Mehlville Fire District? I can only speculate that they trusted his judgement. That was a horrible mistake!

Thanks for the question about Chief Silvernail. I said there were two restraining orders and I was not 100% correct. The Chief has served two years probation for the charges from his previous employment and that restraining order expired in September of 2007. I can't possibly keep up to date on every thug and thief the Call sponsors.
